Have you ever heard of Joan Miro?

Last weekend, my daughter and I went to an exhibition in Nagoya featuring Joan Miro’s paintings.

Miro is a famous Spanish artist who was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1893.

Ever since he was young, he had been longing for Japan very much.

He was interested in Japanese ukiyo-e (painting), haiku (poem), and folk crafts.

He visited Japan twice.  His first visit was in 1966 and the second was in 1970.

(* He was 73 years old when he visited Japan for the first time. )

He experienced Japanese culture, and he was inspired by Japanese calligraphy and pottery.

In this exhibition, we were able to see his artworks influenced by Japanese culture.

We enjoyed his work very much.
